Walnut Creek Teeth Whitening

Teeth whitening in Walnut Creek is becoming very popular and patients have never had more options for whitening their teeth.  At Walnut Creek Teeth Whitening center located at Treat Plaza, we can help you to get whiter and brighter smile.

A Child's deciduous teeth are whiter than adult teeth.  Over the years teeth can become stained by bacteria, food, and tobacco.  Some antibiotics such as tetracycline can cause teeth stains or reduction in brightness of enamel.  During chewing millions of micro cracks occur in the enamel, and they will eventually fill up with stains and debris.  As a result, the teeth becomes dark with lackuster appearance.  Eventually enamel is worn down and becoming more transparent to show yellow color of dentin.

Teeth Whitening in Walnut Creek is a common procedure in cosmetic dentistry and it is very popular at our Walnut Creek Dental office.  It involves removal of stains and debris from the surface of your teeth leaving you with whiter and brighter smile. At Walnut Creek teeth whitening center, we treat our patients with in-office and take-home kits depending on individual teeth, desired outcome.

Philips Zoom White Speed is one of the teeth whitening systems that is used in Walnut Creek Dental office of Dr. Zarekari.  Professionally prescribed take-home whitening, such as Nite White / Day White may be an option.   But being under the care of professional Walnut Creek Dentist is the safest and most reliable option.  There are over the counter gels, whitening tooth paste, rinse, and strips such as  Crest 3D
from drugstores or supermarkets that is used by individuals decisions and judgement.

Factors that decrease whitening progress include smoking, and drinking dark colored liquids like coffee, tea and red wine.  Applying thin coat of composite material, bonding, to surface of tooth stained tooth is another alternative and finally the most attractive method is Porcelain veneers or lumineers that gets you to permanent desired shade and straighten teeth.

What is Tooth Decay

What is Decay?
Decay is the destruction of tooth structure. Decay can often can be detected with the naked eye and by illuminating the teeth with bright light.  Decay is generally has different color from the natural healthy tooth.  It is porous and picks up stain easily and often takes on a brown/black discoloration.

Decayed tooth looks darker on x-rays compared to healthy tooth.  Sometimes xrays, by themselves, are not enough.  There are other methods to either confirm the presence of decay or to detect decay that doesn't show up on  x-rays.

How Decay Occurs?
Decay occurs when plague, the sticky substance that forms on teeth, combines with the sugars and / or starches of the foods that we eat. This combination produces acids that attack tooth enamel. The best way to prevent tooth decay is by brushing twice a day and flossing daily.

How is it treated?
Treatment for tooth decay depends on how bad it is. You may be able to reverse slight tooth decay by using fluoride. To fix cavities caused by mild tooth decay, the decay must be removed and it should be filled up with fillings material (in our office we use tooth colored fillings). If decay reaches the pulp of the tooth, a root canal may be necessary to save the tooth and the then it has to be restored (in most cases with a crown).  In extreme cases, the tooth has to be removed.

5 Reasons not to waste your Dental Insurance Before the End of Year

Did you know that each year insurance companies make millions of dollars from patients that refuse necessary dental treatment even though they have paid for their premiums.  Any annual benefits that are not used by end of the year (December 31th) will be wasted.  You could save alot of money  by using your dental benefits before the end of the year.
these 5 reasons will show you why you should make a dental appointment now:

1. Premiums
Over the year you or your employer is paying monthly toward your premium but due to some unforeseen reason people forget to use their benefits.  Even if you don’t need any dental treatment, you should always have your regular dental cleanings to help prevent and detect any early signs of cavities, gum diseaseoral cancer and other dental problems.

2. Maximum Benefit
The yearly maximum is the most money that the dental insurance plan will pay for your dental work within one full year. This amount varies by insurance company, but the average is around $1,000 per year, per person. The yearly maximum usually renews every year (on January 1 if your plan is on a calendar year). If you have unused benefits, these will not rollover.

3. Deductible
The deductible is the amount that has to be paid annually to use your dental benefits. The average deductible for a dental insurance plan is usually around $50 per year. Your deductible also starts again by your plan renewal.

4. Cost
Most insurance carriers and dentists increase their fees annually (Each january) due to the increased cost of living, materials and equipment. A fee increase can also make your patient portion higher.   Maximum annual benefits may not increase at the same paste.

5. More Dental problems
By delaying dental treatment, you are increasing the risk of causing more extensive treatment. A simple cavity could turn into a crown or into a root canal later. Call your dentist and schedule an appointment to use those benefits.

Selecting A Dentist For you and Your Family

There are many factors that one should use when selecting a family dentist. While many people select one based upon convenience, referral service (such as Google Search), yellow pages, location, or referral from a family member or friend, one should also consider the following when selecting a dentist for a long term health care provider relationship.
    Our Answer is in red
  • How long has the dentist been in practice?   10 years
  • Will they work with my insurance company to maximize my dental benefits? Yes
  • Is the dentist a member of the ADAYes
  • Do they practice curent infection control procedures at their office? Yes by Enviromerica
  • Do they offer different options for treatment? Yes
  • Does the dental office use Henry Schein Dental Supplies or a reputable dental supplier? Yes
  • Is the dentist available for after-hours emergency coverage? Yes
  • Are the facilities neat and clean? Yes
  • Does the dentist do a variety of procedures "in-office" or will I be referred out for many procedures? Yes
  • What hours are they open? 8 AM-5 PM, Monday to Friday
  • Do they treat children? Yes
  • Does the dentist involve the patient in the treatment planning phase? Yes
  • Do you need special assistance or care such as wheelchair access, nitrous oxide, pre-medication, etc.? Yes

NOTE: While these are factors that one might wish to include when selecting a dentist, the decision is a personal one and you need to be comfortable with the dentist you choose. It is their responsibility to let you know the answers to these questions as well as explain the advantages and disadvantages of the treatment options that are presented to you. In addition, you have a right to know the cost in advance and have the procedure explained in a way that you can understand it.
